We're so appreciative of the Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) for mowing and removing a fallen tree from Sears Cemetery in Paradise, Kentucky! We're thankful that this historic cemetery (where a Revolutionary War veteran is interred) is now preserved for all individuals to visit and enjoy!

2019

Thank you to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) for clearing out Green Cemetery in Graham, Kentucky! The Green Cemetery was in horrible condition, but now it's accessible to visitors from the community and, of course, descendants of those interred at Green Cemetery. Thank you so much, MCDC for being supportive of our cemetery preservation efforts!

2019

We're grateful to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) for clearing out Mercer Cemetery in Graham, Kentucky! The cemetery, once overtaken by Kudzu and weeds, is now accessible for the community to visit. For this, we are so ecstatic and appreciative! Again, thank you!

2019

The Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) has been so supportive as we've worked to clear out cemeteries within our county. Left are after photos of the Caney Station Cemetery in Greenville, Kentucky. The cemetery is near where Greenville was originally going to be established. As such, many influential early citizens are buried here, and we are glad that Caney Station Cemetery is now preserved. Thank you, MCDC!

2019

We were so thankful for the Muhlenberg County Detention Center's (MCDC) support in clearing out numerous Muhlenberg County cemeteries. Left are before and after photos of the Wells Cemetery (also known as Mosley P. Wells Cemetery) in the Weir area. Thank you so much, MCDC!

2019

Thanks to the donations from our generous FMCC sponsors, we were able to purchase this new push lawn mower. Now, some of the smaller cemeteries, such as Gabriel N. Shelton (pictured here), can be easily maintained. Thank you, FMCC Sponsors!

2019

After much correspondence and preparation, we are pleased to announce that Hayden Cemetery is now cleared out! We are so appreciative of the Muhlenberg County Job Corps (MJCC) for agreeing to help with this large task of cemetery preservation at Hayden. From mowing the grounds and removing vegetation to creating a sign and placing new gravel, MJCC went above and beyond. Thank you, Muhlenberg County Job Corps!

2020

While we preserved Hayden Cemetery (Drakesboro, KY) for the 2019 mowing season, we recognized that it--along with all cemeteries--would need to maintained in other mowing seasons as well. That's why, in 2020, we ensured that Hayden was once again mowed.

2020

McDougall Cemetery (Paradise, KY) was also preserved in 2019. Even so, we were dedicated to mowing the cemetery for subsequent seasons, as well. That's why, throughout 2020, we worked to mow McDougall Cemetery, too.

2020

Caney Station Cemetery--one of the most historic in the county--was also maintained during the 2020 mowing season by Clayton Adams, who graciously gave of his time to maintain this cemetery. We so appreciate the support of all volunteers and donors who make cemetery preservation possible!

2020

Mosley Wells Cemetery was preserved in the 2020 maintenance season as well! We were thankful that this historic cemetery could become a preserved cemetery.

2020

FMCC was given the opportunity to preserve not one, but two Green Cemeteries in 2020! The Green Cemetery pictured is in the Bancroft area, and it was the first time this cemetery was maintained by FMCC. We were happy to see it preserved in 2020!

2020

The Gabriel N. Shelton Cemetery (Rosewood area) was in deplorable condition, having been almost entirely destroyed by cattle. However, FMCC was able to mow the cemetery for the 2020 season, allowing the historic cemetery to be saved.

2020

Sears Cemetery in Paradise, Kentucky, boasts some of the earliest Muhlenberg County graves, including some dating back to the early 19th century. Even a Revolutionary War veteran is interred on the grounds. We were ecstatic to maintain Sears Cemetery during the 2020 mowing season!

2020

Green Cemetery, located in Graham, Kentucky, was on our 2020 preservation list. Therefore, we were able to save and maintain the cemetery--making sure it doesn't fall into the same state of disrepair as when we first began preservation efforts on the grounds.

2020

Mercer Cemetery, also located in Graham, Kentucky, was on our 2020 preservation list as well. We were excited to maintain this cemetery, which contains a mix of modern and historic graves.

2020

Thanks to a Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation Grant--as well as business and individual donors--we were able to place signs at select cemeteries throughout Muhlenberg County! We appreciate the support of everyone who contributed, allowing visitors and Muhlenberg Countians to more readily locate historic cemeteries. Please scroll through the gallery to view the signage.

2021

Another important aspect of cemetery maintenance to FMCC is cemetery beautification--which includes planting flowers at local cemeteries! We were excited to kick off the 2021 maintenance season by planting Marigolds at Old Greenville Cemetery (Greenville, KY).

2021

Hayden Cemetery has been mowed again for the 2021 maintenance year! We're thrilled that the historic cemetery in Drakesboro, Kentucky, has been saved for future generations to visit and enjoy.

2021

McDougall Cemetery has also been preserved for the 2021 year! The cemetery, located in the Paradise area, was once in disrepair. Now, however, it has been preserved and is able to be visited.

2021

The Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) is a valuable ally in regards to cemetery maintenance. Sears Cemetery in the Paradise area has now been cleared out extensively--on both sides of the burial grounds--so that grave markers that were once in the woods are now in the open and able to be visited. This allows us to see the cemetery in a way that is "complete," and helps ensure that grave markers in the woods aren't forever lost. Thank you, MCDC!

2021

A BIG thank you to Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) for their help during the 2021 cemetery maintenance year! Because of their support, 28 (yes, a whopping 28) cemeteries were preserved. View the images at left to see the list of saved cemeteries.

2022

We were happy to plant these flowers at Old Greenville Cemetery to beautify the grounds. A BIG thank you to Boo Berries for donating the flowers. Check out Boo Berries here.

2022

Early on, 2022 was off to a great start, cemetery preservation-wise. A HUGE thank you to Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) for their continued support in preserving historic cemeteries.

2022

For Memorial Day, FMCC gave out just over 200 American flags to veterans throughout Muhlenberg and surrounding counties. Check out this video to see some of the graves we decorated.

2022

This maintenance year was the best one yet! Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) maintained a whopping 40 cemeteries throughout Muhlenberg County. These cemeteries are a key that helps unlock the past, as they tell the stories of Muhlenberg's earliest pioneers, politicians, veterans, and more. We can't thank the MCDC crew enough for their hard work in preserving these historic burial grounds! (Click on photos to see full list of preserved cemeteries.)

2023

We kicked off 2023 by placing three cemetery signs! Highway Cemetery (Drakesboro), Mosley Wells Cemetery (Weir), and Green Cemetery (Graham) were all recipients of new signs.

2023

For Memorial Day 2023, we gave out 500 American flags to veterans across Muhlenberg County! These past servicemembers spanned the eras--from the Revolutionary and Civil War to World War I and Vietnam--as FMCC continues our mission to preserve and promote cemetery preservation and beautification.

2023

FMCC wants to extend a HUGE thank you to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center (MCDC) for being incredible advocates for cemetery maintenance! Thanks to MCDC's support during the 2023 maintenance season, a whopping forty (40) cemeteries were preserved throughout the year.

2023

Although the year was winding down, that doesn't mean our cemetery preservation efforts did! For Christmas, we gave out over 100 sprigs of greenery--along with a around 20 wintry stakes--to individuals across the county. Recipients included veterans, pioneers, politicians, musicians, and more.
